South Morocco

Without renting an apartment in Milan, without packing our staff in the boxes in Nuremberg, just before we move from Germany to Italy we decided to take the opportunity to make a holiday between our ex-job and the new one. We made a bike tour for three weeks in Morocco. We chose Morocco for the holiday because of the good experiences Pinar made on her visit in 2002, the well known hospitality of Moroccan people, the suitable weather and the famous Atlas Mountains.

On the 14th of April, Monday, we landed in Agadir early in the morning. As we waited for our luggage, we have seen that our panniers were there but the bicycles were not there. We registered our bikes as missed items and got a phone number to ask for further information. The person on the line was not speaking English and our French was not good enough for a proper phone call.

There was only one choice left for us, and that was to go to Agadir, which we wanted to avoid as we planed our holiday. We took a taxi, only possible way to reach the city- with 11 panniers. The taxi driver charged money for the luggage!

Agadir was completely destroyed in 1960 through an earthquake and was rebuild in a very short time and not very regardful. So there were neither historical monuments nor old palaces to visit.

We spent Monday afternoon, whole Tuesday and Wednesday calling Agadir airport and the customer service of Condor Airlines in Germany.

We got our bikes on Wednesday afternoon. We still don’t know what has happened and why they came with delay.

16. April 2008   Agadir to Taroudant

agadirWe started our tour with three days delay. We headed to east and pedalled fast on the plane landscape. As it got dark we camped between to villages under the olive trees. As we were about to sleep, a young boy from the village came and asked kindly if we want to spend the night in his house, he had enough place for us. We thanked and said we are ok. He went away and came back after several minutes with tea and sweets.
